Even though newspapers have mostly fallen out of the people's minds, it wasn't fully the case back in 1992. Sure, people had TV and radio that was more often used than newspaper, but it still left an impact on the people who saw it. It makes sense that the Los Angeles Times would have a whole front page about it, it was national news focused on their city. Being from Los Angeles myself I can say with confidence that everyone was shocked at the verdict. This found object tells much more than what we already know, but how the general LA public felt about the verdict and the riots that ensued.
Look at the right column: 4 Reported Dead. Already within less than a day more people have been hurt and killed more than the original incident that caused this whole thing. That is tragic, and while I'm sure TV and radio reported on these deaths as well (albeit somewhat biased), reading it for oneself must have been heartbreaking to read. The riots changed the people of LA's lives forever, and this newspaper is just one of the many standing scripts that symbolize that.
