The Day N***az Took Over - Dr. Dre

This song is directly about the riots and the looting that followed the not-guilty verdict of the four officers who assaulted Rodney King. The song talks about the social inequality and violence that African Americans faced in this time.
Daz Dillinger raps: "Lock us down at 7 o clock, barricade us like Beirut". He is referring to the curfew set by the police as well as the division of Los Angeles. While there was no physical barrier dividing the A area, like the barrier in Beirut, it was clear that the lower class minorities and the average caucasian did not live in the same areas.
Dre raps: " Bloods, crips on the same squad/ With the Ese's helpin, it's time to rob and mob". He talks about how two of the most well known rival gangs came together as a force to burn Los Angeles and cause mayhem as an act of protest.
Dr Dre (a former member of NWA), was no stranger to the discrimination imposed on the minorities of Los Angeles. He was not exactly a political activist but the music he produced did spark controversy. However, his aim was to rap about his reality and the injustice he saw and faced growing up in the streets of South Central Los Angeles.
